November 2013
Wednesday Night 6th November 6.30pm – 9.30pm
- Story Ideas Brainstorm and Generation
- Three Dimensional Character Creation
- Plot the story
- We demonstrate how to write a short film using the Impro Technique
RESULT By 9.30pm we will have developed an eight minute short film story.
Voluntary Homework: Write the first draft script of the story.Over the years we have found the results of the above techniques have produced a strong short film story for emerging or beginner film makers.

Section Two Learning how to Shoot and Cast a Film

Wednesday Night 13th November 6.30pm – 9.30pm
First Practical Film Making Session:
By the end of tonight you will learn how to operate a Professional Camera
- How to balance a Fluid Head Tripod
- How to focus effectively using a Focus Chart
- How to get the best F Stop
- How to use the Zebra
- How to frame a shot beautifully
- How to pan and tilt
- When to use Prime Lenses and when to use Zoom Lenses
The Session will end with Shooting an Interview with 3 different Camera Shots.
(Special Note – All Camera Equipment is supplied by the Film School)
Wednesday Night 20th November 6.30pm – 9.30pm
6.30pm – 7.30pm Setting up the Casting: We show you how we get the best Actors in town to the Casting.
7.30pm – 9.30pm The Sound Session. Tonight we train you in how to use Professional Sound Equipment.

Casting Night – Real Live Auditions with Real Actors
Tonight we have a real live Casting . All of the Course particpants get to
- Audition Actors
- Set up the Lights and Camera and operate them
- Use the Lapel Microphone on the actors auditioning.
- Every 10 minutes an actor is scheduled for the casting
- Course participants get to direct the actors in the casting.
You will learn and know how to cast a film effectively by doing it for real. This is a favourite session as one learns how to pick the best actors from the aution

SECTION FOUR: THE SHOOT AND POSTPRODUCTION

The Film Shoot – On Location. Today you will work as a crew member on a real film. Every person revolves through the 10 Person Crew roles over the two shooting days. A designated time is allotted for each crew role. This is 100% hands-on practical.
Saturday 14th December 8am – 6pm The Shoot on Location -Day Two (This is the Real Deal)
The Film Shoot – On Location. Today you will work as a crew member on a real film. Every person revolves through the 10 Person Crew roles over the two shooting days. A designated time is allotted for each crew role. This is 100% hands-on practical.

Friday Night 10th January 6.30pm – 9.30pm Edit Night One
In the studio, editing begins on the film. You will learn how a film is edited and how to make the film to look professional

Saturday Morning 11th January 2014 10 am – 3pm Edit Day Two
In the studio, editing continues on the film. You will learn how a film is edited and how to make the film look professional.
- We edit the film and you learn about the process of cutting a film and placing titles and colouring.
Saturday 1st February 2014 10am – 5pm
Sound Post Session Channel 9 Sound Post Expert John Hresc cleans and mixes the Sound Session in the Sound Post Studio
- How to clean up dialogue
- Using ADR to replace location dialogue
- Where to place Sound Effects
- Music
This is a wonderful final technical session where the course participant learns the importance of Sound and sees the film in its completed phase for the first time with music and seamless sound track.
